Wednesday Wisdom

No matter where I am in my life I am not complete if I don't have my music. So today's Wednesday Wisdom has been brought to you by music...and the letter X.

Today I was looking at my music playlists on my Zune. I have a dance mix, I have a mix of one of my favorite artists, a Madonna mix, and a mix for when I'm in a rotten mood. I noticed I didn't have any music that was inspirational or uplifting, so I've been pulling together a new playlist, because today I need some inspiration.

Kicking off the playlist is busty Yoda in a bouffant: Dolly Parton! How can you not be inspired by these lyrics:

I said you'd better get to livin', givin'
Be willing and forgivin'
Cause all healing has to start with you

Dolly says, "There is no try, only do...and put on some more lipstick."

Following is a self assuring classic, "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. We all have those days where we feel like the mirror is our worst enemy and this is a great remedy.

Want some female empowerment? Well the next on the list is "Giant" by Melissa Etheridge. She wails "I am a giant!" It's all about not letting the people who stand against you tear you down. Their hatred is small in comparison my feminist fury. Step down haters. Aw hell yeah.

Next: "Flashdance...what A Feelin'" by Irene Cara; cuz sometimes you just gotta DANCE!

Then I have "Superwoman" by Alicia Keys. This is very special to me because Rene sang it to me on my Birthday less than a month after my divorce, and it has stayed with me ever since.

Gotta find the strength in me, 'cause I am a Superwoman. Even when I'm a mess still put on a vest with an S on my chest, oh yes I'm a Superwoman.

The rest I'm leaving open to suggestions. What do you listen to when you need to feel inspired or empowered? Share and I'll add it to my list!

  1. My sister gifted me two inspirational songs when I was going through a rough time and doubting myself; now every time I hear them, I get chills: "Survivor" by Destiny's Child and "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera. When I hear those, I get pumped and think I can take over the world.
